It's a katakanization, a loan-word.
- hari-nezumi means "Hedgehog" and includes the word nezumi ネズミ, which means "Rat" in Japanese. Note, however, that Hedgehogs are not rodents. Porcupines are rodents. And they're totally unrelated.
hejjihoggu is normally written with katakana, as ヘッジホッグ.
hejjihoggu written with hiragana is へっじほっぐ.
